How many days do you need in Moldova?

In short: Three days covers Chișinău, one large winery and Orheiul Vechi. Five days adds either the north or the Nistru canyon without driving more than two hours on any day.

Moldova is small — most places are under a two-hour drive from Chișinău. That changes how a trip is planned: rather than picking one base and doing day trips from it, you can move once, halfway through.

Three days: Chișinău (the historic centre, the museums, an evening of live music), a day at Cricova or Mileștii Mici, a day at Orheiul Vechi staying in a Butuceni guesthouse.

Five days: the same three, plus either the north (Soroca Fortress, the Prut floodplain) or the Nistru canyon with the cave monasteries at Țipova and Saharna.

A week: add the south — the Purcari vineyards and the Gagauz villages — and keep a day free for a festival if one falls in your window.
